O que é a Escola de Jazz e Música Moderna do Algarve?

EJMMA – Escola de Jazz e Música Moderna do Algarve, é uma realização cultural da Associação Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, com Direcção Pedagógica de Hugo Alves (www.hugoalvesmusic.pt.vu). Trata-se da primeira estrutura de formação em Jazz e Música Moderna no Algarve, com Programa de Estudos definido, e um corpo docente de cerca de cinco professores que ministram um curso que tem a duração de três anos lectivos, em Três Níveis (Níveis Um, Dois e Três), nas disciplinas Instrumento, Formação Musical, Solfejo, História do Jazz, Harmonia e Improvisação, Combo. Coexiste ainda um Nível Júnior, indicado para alunos de idades dos 8 aos 14 anos, sensivelmente. O projecto EJMMA iniciou a sua actividade em 2007.

Os Níveis, os instrumentos disponíveis.

O Nível Júnior é assim destinado às crianças e adolescentes, e começa também por ser um nível de iniciação quer a Instrumento, quer em Formação Musical. O Nível Júnior tem 2h de aulas por semana, sendo uma teórica e outra de Instrumento.

O Nível Um, é o primeiro do Curso Geral, e é, nesse sentido, de iniciação, para quem ainda não toca um instrumento. É também o Nível de homogeneização entre alunos de todas as origens e níveis de conhecimentos. A EJMMA comporta os seguintes instrumentos: saxofone, trompete, trombone, voz, guitarra, baixo eléctrico, contrabaixo, piano e bateria. Aqui todos os alunos terão a formação essencial básica que os permitirá tocar o instrumento da sua escolha, bem como todos os rudimentos técnicos necessários.

O nível Dois é para quem já toca um instrumento e o domina, que detém um certo nível de conhecimentos. Ressalvamos aqui a hipótese de ser um outro que não um dos instrumentos disponíveis: para se tocar Jazz ou Música Moderna, qualquer instrumento é adequado, no entanto serão avaliados caso a caso. O nível Dois e Três são para desenvolvimento sustentado nas matérias e instrumentos escolhidos, com forte componente Improvisação (Combo), num grau ascendente de dificuldade e desempenho. No fim do Curso, os alunos podem continuar a frequentar o Nível 3 que é renovado ano após ano em conteúdos, podendo criar-se vários Combos se necessário.

What is the Algarve School of Jazz and Modern Music?

EJMMA – Algarve Jazz and Modern Music School, is a cultural and education achievement of the Algarve Jazz Orchestra Association, with the Pedagogical Direction of Hugo Alves (www.hugoalvesmusic.pt.vu). This is the first training structure in Jazz and Modern Music in the Algarve, with a defined Study Programme, and a faculty of a minimum of five teachers who teach a course that lasts for three academic years, in three Levels (One to Three). The disciplines are: Instrument, Musical Formation, Solfeggio, History of Jazz, Harmony and Improvisation, Combo. There is also a Junior Level, suitable for students aged between 8 and 14 years old, roughly. The EJMMA project started its activity in 2007.

The Levels and the Availble Instruments.

The Junior Level is therefore intended for children and adolescents, and it also starts as an initiation level, both in Instrument and in Musical Training. The Junior Level has 2 hours of classes per week, one theoretical and one Instrumental.

Level One, is the first of the General Course, and is, in this sense, initiation, for those who do not yet play an instrument. It is also the level of homogenization among students of all backgrounds and levels of knowledge. The EJMMA includes the following instruments: saxophone, trumpet, trombone, voice, guitar, electric bass, double bass, piano and drums. Here all students will have the essential basic training that will allow them to play the instrument of their choice, as well as all the necessary technical rudiments.

Level Two is for those who already play an instrument and master it, who have a certain level of knowledge. We emphasize here the hypothesis of being other than one of the available instruments: for playing Jazz or Modern Music, any instrument is suitable, however they will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Levels Two and Three are for sustained development in the chosen subjects and instruments, with a strong Improvisation (Combo) component, with an ascending degree of difficulty and performance. At the end of the Course, students can continue to attend Level 3, which is renewed year after year in content, and several graded Combos can be created if necessary.
